I am not Buhari's agent - Chief Nzeribe

The sponsor of next week's demonstrations in London, Paris, Bonn and Washington has affirmed that he is not an agent of the military regime but a servant of the interest of Nigerians and Nigeria.

In a press statement Chief Francis Arthur Nzeribe, a former Senator stressed his support for the military regime only in terms of its stated objectives of eliminating a bad, corrupt, inept and inefficient government be it civilian or military.

Chief Nzeribe again defined his support in terms of the change that had been achieved with guns and bullets. He said this change would probably never have been effected within the next 100 years with ballot boxes and ballot papers.

Emphasising his claim to be a democrat and believer in democracy, Chief Nzeribe said that Gen. Buhari and his colleagues should be assisted to carry out their objectives quickly and hand back the people's democratic rights before the administration becomes as evil as the civilian one it overthrew.

On the impending demonstrations he said that he had not been in contact with the Buhari administration and had not even enjoyed the courtesy of a reply to a letter he had sent to the administration on January 3rd.

"The demonstrations are being sponsored by me through the Nigerian solidarity committee which is my brainchild", explained Chief Nzeribe. The committees' objectives are:

To counter the propaganda gaining ground in some circles that all Nigerians are corrupt, thieves and unreliable.

To promote the image, cause, and objectives of the new government, in so far as these continue to accord with the interests of Nigeria and Nigerians. To dry clean the poor image of Nigerians the world over, created since 1970, that we are spendthrifts given to looting our national treasury. To ensure the recovery of our stolen £16bn which is in private hands, so that we can pay off our external debt and improve the foreign exchange pattern.
