19 Gun salute for Obeng
According to a New Nigerian report, Mr Obeng was given a red carpet reception at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja and was received by the Nigerian Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarters Brigadier Tunde Idiagbon.
According to the report, the Co- ordinating Secretary later inspected a guard of honour mounted by the Army Brigade of Guards after being treated to a traditional 19 gun salute.
At the airport to welcome the visiting dignitary were government officials and members of the diplomatic corps. Mr Obeng who has since returned to Ghana was reported to have held talks with members of the Federal Military Government.
"Diplomatic sources were said to have been surprised at the rank of the welcome accorded the Ghanaian visitor since 19 gun salutes are usually reserved for heads of government and Mr P. V. Obeng is not officially regarded as head of government in Ghana.
