"Our soldiers are different"

Hundreds of Nigerians have staged a peaceful demonstration in Greece to express their solidarity with and support for the Federal Military Government of Nigeria, the High Commission in London has reported.

The demonstrators, carrying various placards and denouncing former politicians who looted the Nigerian treasury, delivered a letter to the Greek Prime Minister.

In the letter, they assured the Prime Minister that the type of military government in Nigeria was different from the one that once existed in Greece. They said that the military administration in Nigeria was based on principles of personal liberty, the rule of law, independence of the judiciary and freedom of the press.

They urged the Greek government to support the Federal Military Government and not to harbour any of the Nigerian discredited politicians.

The demonstrators said that they believed that the Federal Military Government is capable of giving the Nigerian people a new lease of life and adding that the effort of the government to recover the ill-gotten wealth of politicians should be encouraged by all.

The demonstrators also delivered two separate letters to the British and American ambassadors in Greece urging them to tell their governments not to harbour Nigerians who are accused of embezzlement.

They later handed a letter expressing support for and solidarity with the Federal Military Government to the Nigerian charge d'Affaires in Greece for onward delivery to the government back home.
