For Justice

Lasana M. Sekou

There is no truth
Purer than the will of the people
There is no love
Stronger than the courtship of I and I
No system
More enduring than our building
No choice
Beyond our select
There be no house
In which to arrest
The people's will
And no reality but justice
Will continue this process
Let the executioners know
True it may be
That blood is the feed
Of new birth
Tell them
There be no vengeance
Swifter
More terrible
Than the people's
And if deception
And if force
Last beyond this midnight
We will know by next noon
There will be no resistance
More raging
In the hurricane's eye
Than when we say
No.
