Nigeria, Ghana, I. Coast face expulsion

Four West African States are among 40 nations which face possible expulsion from the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) for their indebtedness in annual subscription to the federation. They are the Gambia, Ivory Coast, Nigeria and Ghana. According to a BBC radio report the nations concerned have up to next January 28 to settle their debt.

Azumah predicts knock-out win

Ghana's Africa and Commonwealth featherweight boxing champion, Azuma Nelson, who faces world champion Wilfredo Gomez of Puerto Rico for his title in San Juan on December 8, has restated a fifth round knockout over Gomez.

Azuma who will be making a second attempt at the world crown after losing to the late Salvador Sanchez of Mexico, told a news conference that Gomez's time was up.

The challenger said: "I respect Gomez. He is a good champion. I want to tell him his time is over now. I'll take over on December 8." Azuma predicted he would knock Gomez out in the fifth round.

The Puerto Rican who will be making his first defence said the fight would be difficult, "possibly the most difficult in my life, because of Azuma's qualities".

But he said he would knock Azuma out. His greatest aspiration is to be a three title holder. He is a former holder of the world bantamweight title and wants to add the junior lightweight title, after getting rid of Azuma.

Azuma's American manager Carl King, son of the famous promoter, Don King, also told Ghana News Agency that he was optimistic about Azuma's chances.

He said Azuma is "a fighter of destiny, of vision and is destined for greatness. His greatest advantage now was his determina- tion to win the title. The world will see a new featherweight champion after December 8."

Carl King said Azuma would continue with his training at the Don King Training Camp outside Cleveland, Ohio and would head for San Juan for the fight, depending on arrangements the promotions make.

The fight, sanctioned by the World. Boxing Council (WBC), would be promoted by Pavillion Sports Promotions of Puerto Rico.

Cameroon win 3-0

Cameroon beat Angola 3-0 in a first leg, second round junior world cup qualifying game played in Yaounde.

All three goals were scored by centre- forward Oman Biyick in the 35th second, 16th and 33rd minutes.

Ghana's league programme

Ghana's national first division football league will kick off at all centres on December 16.

The season will, however, begin on December 2, with the annual Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) cup match Sekondi Hasaacas are defending the title they won last year. Their opponents are yet to be named.

In accordance with directives on the league, all first division clubs are to present an Under-20 team which will play as curtain raisers to all first division league matches.. Any club which fails to present an Under-20 team shall be suspended from participating in the 1985 football programme.

Kotoko man attached to Arsenal

Malik Jabir, team manager of Asante Kotoko, is in London on a six month coaching course.

Malik will initially be attached to Arsenal FC, but will, from time to time, have the opportunity to learn from other top English teams.

Meanwhile, the club has embarked on a new membership drive to raise funds for the running of the Club.

Mr Charles Allen Gyimah, Financial Controller who announced this at a fund- raising rally organized by the Club in Kumasi said special registration cards costing C100.00 each have been printed for the exercise.

F.C. 105 of Gabon lose to Kotoko

F.A. Cup holders Asante Kotoko beat F.C. 105 of Gabon in an international friendly football match at the Accra Stadium. The score was 3-1.

F.C. 105, the current champion club of Gabon, are on a two match tour of Ghana.

Universities to take part in festival

Ghana's three universities, Legon, U.S.T. and Cape Coast, will participate in the forthcoming National Sports Festival in Kumasi from December 15 to 22. The combined team will feature in athletics, basket- ball, hockey and table tennis all for men and women. The participation of the universities brings to 15 the contesting groups to the festival.

Those who have earlier registered are the Armed Forces, Prisons Service, Fire Service, Police Force and the ten administrative regions.

The late registration of the universities for the festival was due to their late re-opening.

German boxing coach in Accra

Coach Helmut Ranze, a West German boxing expert has arrived in Ghana to begin lectures for coaches in Accra.

A release from the National Sports Council advised all coaches who partici- pated in the first course held last year to report at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Leventis football club moves ahead

Leventis United have knocked out the fancied New Nigerian Bank from the Challenge Cup competition. Inside forward Bunmi Adigun sneaked home the decider in a melee inside the Bankers' vital area.

After the goal the Oyo State champions spent virtually the entire second half repelling the countless forays of a desperate NNB side.

Ghanaian footballer dies in France

Ghanaian footballer Seth Odonkor and West Indian Jean-Michel Labejof, both midfielders with French first division side FC Nantes, were killed in a road accident in Nantes, Western France last week. Odonkor 24, and Labejof, 20, from Martinique, were travelling in a car with 19 year-old Sidi Kaba, a player in Nantes' reserve team.

Flying Eagles lose in Accra

Nigeria's junior soccer team, Flying Eagles, have qualified for the second round World Cup (African Zone) elimination series despite losing 0-1 to their Ghanaian They moved ahead on a 2-1 goal aggregate counterparts, Black Satellites, in Accra.

It was a tough match with the Ghanaians forcing their opponents to defend most of the time and it was goalkeeper Alloy Agu of Nigeria who saved the day for his country. He effectively frustrated the daring moves of the goal hungry Satellites who had promised before the match to beat the Eagles 3-0.

Edward Acquah was particularly daring in the Ghanaian attack. But the Eagles were able to contain the Satellites in the first half which ended goalless.
