More coaches, less officials

Amateur boxers in Nigeria have come out with a request for more coaches than officials during overseas trips.

According to the boxers "there is need for an increased number of coaches to accompany boxers on overseas trips".

Outlining reasons why they preferred more coaches than officials, the boxers said when one boxer is fighting other coaches would be getting the others ready for their bouts.

The boxers who had just returned from trips to Niger Republic and Romania further accused the officials of a nonchalant attitude.

They alleged that an empty First Aid Box was taken to Niamey and Romania - a situation which left the entire team helpless when some of them felt sick.

According to the boxers, the cat was let out of the bag when some of the boxers were indisposed owing to severe weather conditions and when they requested for drugs, the medical doctor informed them that there was no drug in the First Aid Box. The boxers further explained that when they lodged complaints to the officials they were simply told to "manage".

The boxers also accused the officials of starving them on their way back home emphasising that they waited for eight hours at the Paris Airport without food and only ate in the plane.
