Real United deputise for Black Stars

Ghana will be represented at the 15th President's Cup Football tournament in Republic of Korea by Real Tamale United.

The tournament begins in Seoul from June 1 to June 15.

According to a spokesman for the Ghana Football Association the invitation to the tournament organised annually by the Korean Football Association was extended to the national team, the Black Stars who first took part in 1983.

But he explained that in view of the tight domestic programmes and the pending African and World Cup qualifying matches, it was not possible for the Black Stars to make the trip.

The spokesman explained that Real Tamale United were selected for their consistency and in the hope that their exposure to such an international competition would help develop the game in the North.

A squad of 23, made up of 18 players and five officials, will make the trip whose cost is being borne by the Koreans,

In all eight national teams and club sides will take part in the two-week contest. They include clubs from Brazil, France and the national and Olympic teams of the Republic of Korea.
